More News on the New Scoring System

December 1st, 2005 by Administrator

A senior Asian Badminton Federation official has stated that the IBF is likely to make a decision on implementing the new system soon. Srikkant Vad, ABF Development Officer said to reporters that “The issue is on the agenda during the IBF meet in Kuala Lumpur on December 10 and most of the 160 member countries are in favour of implementing the new system.”

Another interesting thing to note about the new system is the intervals between games will be dropped from 90seconds to 60 seconds between the first and second game, and from 5 minutes to 2 minutes between the second and third games. The new system is intended to shorten games significantly, and speed up the pace.

The system is to be put on trial for all national championships worldwide for the next two years, and the hope is that it will attract more sponsors and a larger audience.
